About Our Community Clinics

These clinics offer hour-long sessions in a semi-private environment. Patients remain fully clothed and treatments are often given sitting in chairs. A simple, highly-effective protocol of 5 acupuncture points will be used. Needles will be placed mainly in the ear.

We ask that clients have one half hour consultation prior to treatment at the cost of $40. After this session you will be registered to secure your space in the clinic. $20 per class with 5 week commitment recommended.

Saturday 10:30 and 11 am with Derek Kirkham

Wednesday 5pm Women's Clinic with Lindsey Lawson

This clinic is offered to those who have already had a private session with Lindsey. The focus is on treating women's health issues such as fertility, hormone regulation, fibroids, endometriosis, weight loss and menstrual irregularity. Pre payment and a 5-week commitment required.

Community Clinic Story

Acupuncture has a long tradition in China of being practiced in an informal, communal environment. This makes seeing many patients at the same time easy, and makes it possible for a patient to see a busy doc regularly, even daily if needed. In fact, to resolve stubborn conditions, treatments are often given daily for a course of one to one-and-a-half weeks, and then resumed after a break of 5 days. This gives the practitioner a chance to shift a pattern in the body, and then the body a rest to see if it can hold the shift on its own.

We offer our treatments at a low, discounted rate of $20 per 1 hr. treatment to anyone. We do require one private, initial intake prior to group treatment. As far as we know, this was the first clinic in Seattle offering this kind of care, by experienced practitioners with no income requirements.

In the states, this type of treatment has been used primarily in drug treatment centers, for post- traumatic stress disorder after the 911, and Katrina disasters. Most of the points are done on the ears, a type of treatment known as auricular acupuncture. This approach treats the whole body and has a wonderful stress relieving affect.

Our community clinic was started as a joint effort between Derek and Lindsey. Both wanted to be able to make their services available to low income individuals, and for those who need frequent visits in a week to treat their conditions. It's also great for those who want to try acupuncture and don't want to commit to a full visit right away.

In November of 2005, Lindsey took a trip to New Orleans to volunteer with Acupuncturists Without Borders. She saw between 20-30 patients a day in free community clinics. They show both the aftermath of the storm, the volunteers, and various make-shift clinics that were formed.
