Our Approach

Our team is trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which encompasses, acupuncture, acupressure/tui na (Chinese massage), cupping, food therapy, moxibustion (warming of acupuncture points) and Chinese herbal medicine. Part of the quality education that our practitioners receive focuses on the art of diagnosis and treatment based on observation. This is done primarily through taking the pulse and looking at the tongue to assess internal patterns. For the practitioner, the name of a disease is of less importance; it is the diagnosis of the condition in terms of qi, blood, yin and yang that is primary.

While modern science is just beginning to prove the effectiveness of TCM, it is backed by over 3,000 years of anecdotal evidence. In most cases, our patients do not reject Western medicine or traditional medical doctors. Instead they choose to explore a more complete and encompassing view of their bodies by integrating TCM. We aim to provide access to optimum health rather than just the absence of illness.

Our Treatments

We offer holistic, individualized treatments ranging from 1.5 hour first appointments to ½ hour mini treatments. Follow up visits are generally 1 hour. Most conditions are treated with a combination of acupuncture and Chinese herbs. This is especially important with chronic conditions. We do accept PIP claims and are considered out-of-network providers for most insurance. We request payment at time of service, and provide you with the paperwork to be reimbursed by your insurance company. For more information on our individual practitioners specialties, please see our individual about us pages: Derek Kirkham and Lindsey Lawson.

Before Treatment Care

Everyone responds differently to treatment. Most of the time patients feel relaxed, energized, possibly lightheaded or drunk feeling. It's like the feeling you have after getting a massage. This can vary based on your age, illness, energy level for the day, or the strength of treatment. We recommend that to prepare for your first treatment you have a light snack an hour or so before. If you are taking medications or supplements it's good idea to have a list available for your practitioner. Please bring any lab tests and x-rays that you may have.

After Care

Drink plenty of water after your treatment. Your body may begin to detox as it is brought back into balance and this will help cleanse toxins out.

Get plenty of rest the night after your session.

Don't over do it. Just because you feel great now doesn't mean you can go right to the gym and get going on that new workout routine. Especially if you are coming in for a pain condition, let your body recover and consult your practitioner before introducing anything new.

The ancient systems of Acupuncture and Oriental medicine seek to balance the body's Qi, or vital energy. The focus is on strengthening internal resistance to disease as well as relieving symptoms. We offer acupuncture, accupressure massage, Chinese herbal medicine, cupping (a suction technique which feels great and is used to relieve pain and stress) and moxibustion (warming of acupuncture points).
