Statement from the World Health Organization

The World Health Organization (WHO) compiled the following list of conditions which may benefit from acupuncture. This list is not based on clinical research but on clinical experience. It is only a partial list, as acupuncturists are trained to treat any condition within the framework of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

While pain relief is one of the most common applications for acupuncture, in the hands of a well-trained practitioner, it has much broader applications. The WHO recognizes the use of acupuncture in the treatment of a wide range of common illnesses including:
